A Preparation and Packing Workstation Like No Other at the Pierre-Le Gardeur Hospital’s Medical Device Reprocessing Department

The Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) at Pierre-Le Gardeur Hospital recently acquired a preparation and packing workstation unlike any other.  This workstation boasts an upper module, a LED head light with dimmer, a sterile wrap rack, drawers, suspension bars, storage containers, a monitor arm, a keyboard and mouse tray, and a magnifying lamp. At first glance it might look like just another well-equipped ERGOFLEX table, but don't be fooled, there's more!

Upon closer inspection, you'll notice a customization feature that has never been done before. A specially designed area on the tabletop to integrate a surgical instrument traceability scanner!

For many years, MDR staff have developed a workflow that allows them to quickly scan surgical instruments. With the need to acquire a new height-adjustable table, a major challenge arose: how to find a compatible solution that would not interfere with the efficient work processes that had been put in place?

After a lengthy period of research and evaluation of various suppliers, a solution was found: the ERGOFLEX workstation. At first glance, this height-adjustable table with an upper module had a major advantage over the others. Thanks to its integrated sterile wrap rack, the proximity of the sterile wraps would reduce the distances to be covered, save floor space, and facilitate the packaging processes. Only one detail was missing: an opening to insert the scanner used to track surgical instruments.

Benoit Girard, Director of Engineering at Adaptaid, recalls: "We had never had a request like this before. During the project planning stages, we had to check several details to ensure that the opening could be made to the right size in the desired location without compromising the strength of the ERGOFLEX table's worktop."

Beforehand, MDR Department Head Catherine Brouillette had consulted her team to ensure their preferences and requirements were met. Once she had obtained the cutting plan for the traceability scanner to be integrated into the work surface, all she had to do was visit Adaptaid to validate each of the components for her ERGOFLEX workstation.

"I had already been in contact with Adaptaid for several weeks to plan this acquisition project. My visit to their showroom allowed me to confirm certain details, particularly regarding the choice of options, accessories, and the exact position of the scanner. Our discussions were fruitful. When I left Adaptaid, I was reassured that my ERGOFLEX workstation would be exactly as my team wanted it.

For Adaptaid, whose product line is tailored specifically to MDR departments, working closely with department heads serves as a constant source of inspiration for creating new products. Adaptaid's commitment to helping healthcare professionals find the solutions they need is at the heart of the company's new innovations.

Many thanks to Pierre-Le Gardeur Hospital for placing its trust in Adaptaid for its medical equipment.
